What is REupscale project?
REupscale project is a mod that upscales and corrects, using Topaz’s A.I. Gigapixel, the background textures of Resident Evil HD Remaster.
The textures are the kept at the same original resolution (1920x1440) but they are obtained by downsampling images twice that resolution. Some textures use the Gamecube original source (~90%) while others are upscaled from the HD Remastered texture (~10%).
Here are a few screenshots showing the results:
I have set two gallery pages. One contains some screenshots comparing it with the original, both in-game and some textures, and the other a few videos of the mod in action.
Status of the Mod
The mod is complete, therefore, the whole game is fully playable from start to finish, but I can't guarantee that it's a bug-free experience. So far, I have completed a run with Jill and I'm in the middle of one with Chris and I have yet to find any bug that wasn't present in the original game.
Edit (06/02): Finished the run with Chris without encountering any bugs.
Please, use this page or the Contact Form to report any issue.
Contents of the Mod
The release contains more than 1600 replaced textures, between gameplay and cutscenes. However, not all the textures have been upscaled, the rooms that Capcom redid as 3D rendered rooms have not been modified.
The download links can be found here, offered in Mega, Google Drive, 1fichier and 4shared, alongside with the instructions to install the mod.
That's all, I hope you like it!

Amazing job guys
ReplyDeleteThanks, I hope you enjoy it 😉
DeleteI just want to thank you for this amazing job! You are awesome!
DeleteOutstanding work!Just in time for my FIRST RE 1 playthrough! #feelinglucky
ReplyDeleteThanks, glad you liked it!
DeleteWow, this looks so cool. Going to try it soon. Are there plans to do the same for RE Zero?
ReplyDeleteWhy would you NEED one for RE0? Its HD port was made by actually re-rendering the original 3D files at MUCH higher resolution, meaning the vanilla backgrounds are already crisp and sexy as heck.
DeleteAs name less said there's no need to do it for RE0. It already looks so much better than 1, due to Capcom having the original assets.
DeleteOh OK, thank you guys, I haven't played RE0 HD so I assumed it was just like RE1 :)
DeleteJust what I was wanting! :D Wonderful project.
ReplyDeleteIt would be a great idea, to recreate in HD some 3D textures, like the ones of the characters, like in RE4 Restoration Project.
ReplyDeleteThe next release will include new textures for the 3D objects, as I explained here: https://reupscaleproject.blogspot.com/2019/02/status-update.html.
DeleteThe characters look decent enough considering that the camera never gets as close as it does in RE4, but maybe I’ll take a look at it after finishing v1.5.
Hey Shiryu
ReplyDeleteAwesome work, can you give any ETA on the 1.05v?
